✳ Focus First.

Make room for focus.

Real website blocking requires our companion extension in desktop Chrome. The timer still works without it. It cannot block installed mobile apps or other browsers.

Download Chrome extension
  1. Download and unzip the extension into a permanent folder.
  2. In desktop Chrome, open chrome://extensions.
  3. Enable Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and select the unzipped folder containing manifest.json.
  4. Refresh Focus First and any already-open distracting websites. Use this exact hosted Focus First site in the same Chrome profile.
  5. Choose websites and start a session. Verify that the indicator says Blocking Active. If it does not, blocking has not been confirmed.

What to expect

Selected Instagram, YouTube (including youtu.be), TikTok, and Snapchat website domains redirect to a focus page. Other websites remain accessible. Already-loaded selected pages are checked every two seconds after the extension’s content script has loaded.

Your session is stored locally by the extension and continues after this tab closes. Reopen Focus First in the same Chrome profile to recover it. Confirming an early end requires ten seconds in the extension too.

Chrome can delay alarms, particularly during sleep or restart. Rules are reconciled when the extension wakes, the website reconnects, or a blocked page opens. Expiry may be delayed until Chrome runs the extension again. This is a voluntary tool: disabling or uninstalling the extension removes protection.

Privacy and permissions

No accounts, analytics, remote code, or external database. The extension stores only your current session and confirmation wait locally. It requests storage, alarms, and declarative network rules, plus access to the selected supported website domains. It does not collect message text or browsing history. A content script on this Focus First origin carries session commands.

Testing status

Automated checks verify session logic, generated domain rules, restart recovery, expiry, and confirmation safeguards using mocked Chrome APIs. Installation, actual redirects, real browser restarts, and sleeping-device behavior still require the manual browser checklist included in the download. This is an unpacked development release, not a Chrome Web Store release.
